Understand kW, kWh and consumption
2 min read
QUICK ANSWER
kW measures power: the rate of energy transfer. kWh measures an amount of energy. They are not interchangeable.
What to know
kWh/100 km expresses consumption. At 18 kWh per 100 km, 200 km under the same conditions needs about 36 kWh of battery energy.
Planning and usage
Grid energy may exceed energy added to the battery because of losses. Usable and total battery capacity are also different.
Final checks
Estimate time as energy / average power. A station’s peak rating does not guarantee average power.
