Keeping a real-world consumption log
2 min read
QUICK ANSWER
For each trip, record distance, displayed consumption and important conditions together. Different speeds, temperatures, loads and routes may not be directly comparable.
What to know
Battery consumption displayed by the vehicle and grid energy billed by a station are different measurements. Consider losses and measurement boundaries separately.
Planning and usage
Use a distance-weighted average across trips: total estimated battery energy / total kilometres × 100. Do not give a very short trip the same weight as a long journey.
Final checks
Use a reasonable consumption range from your own records in the planners. Allow for future weather and road conditions to change it.
